Profile is a set of rules that defines how barcode values on input pages are used to produce output documents and/or reports.  Profiles reflect the design of the business process and concern the following elements:

• Barcode pages - one or more per file?  
• Barcode relationships - Is each page barcoded, or are they grouped behind a cover page?  How do multiple barcodes apply?
• Document structure -  Is each file a document?  or do documents span multiple files?
• Document and Folder ID - which ones are present and how to extract their data
• Validation Rules - what constitutes a valid barcode for the purposes of the workflow

The set of profiles in Barcode Director account for just about every permutation of usage of barcodes to define folder and document relationships.   They include four profiles:

• Renaming   

Note: This profile preserves the original file structure and contents without modifying it.   Other profiles read and write out the individual pages of the file, and therefore modify their structure.   This affects PDF files primarily and converts their pages to images.
